Kalandra Education Group have been advised that they are now approved by NZQA to deliver the Diploma in Embalming, filling a significant and long-term gap in the provision of this training.
Kalandra Education, an Auckland based education group that specialises in healthcare education and training, is very pleased to have worked closely with the Funeral Service Training Trust (FSTT) and the New Zealand Embalming Association (NZEA) to gain approval to be the only education provider in New Zealand delivering this qualification. Kelly Clark, Chief Operations Officer for Kalandra states "offering this education program has been a particular interest of mine for a number of years and I am very excited that Kalandra has been provided this opportunity”.
John Duncan, Chair of the Funeral Service Training Trust of New Zealand (FSTT), the former ITO for funeral service in New Zealand, says Trustees have worked closely with Kalandra and the NZ Embalmers Association to see a level 5 diploma qualification in embalming delivered once again, after a hiatus since 2020. As the newly established Toit? te Waiora (Community, Health, Education, and Social Services) Workforce Development Council assumes the responsibility for funeral sector education formerly held by FSTT, and the Trust winds down, Trust Chair John Duncan says he is delighted that delivery of the embalming diploma course by Kalandra will be a fitting legacy to FSTT's proud history and involvement in funeral sector education over the past 32 years.
Jordan Goss, President of the New Zealand Embalmers Association states “We have been without a Diploma course for several years, since WelTec discontinued the delivery, it had been involved in, dating all the way back to 1974. NZEA has spent a great deal of time engaged with other providers who have failed to come up with a suitable product. Kalandra Education has been able to facilitate our expectations and has done so with an ease that has been a delight to work with at a professional level,” Mr Goss commented.
